Middle School Redesign
As you may have heard, District 62 is making some exciting changes to our middle schools next
year. Some of the key changes are:
● Movement to a true middle school model as opposed to a traditional junior high
● Increased time for instructional blocks
● Creation of smaller teams of students (70-80 students as opposed to 120-140).
● Incorporation of a weekly student advisory period If you have any questions or would like additional information, please don’t hesitate to contact
Mrs. Cengel at (847) 824-156.

Parent Workshop
D62 invites all parents and guardians to attend a workshop on “Co-Parenting Children of
Separated or Divorced Parents” with Dr. Char Myklebust.

Our 4th and 5th graders will be delighting their audience with a performance of “Music through
the Ages” on Thursday, February 9. We will have a morning (9:15) and an evening
performance (6:30). Please mark your calendars!

Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is almost here. All classes will be having a small celebration at some point
during the day. Just a reminder that we are no longer allowed to distribute food, candy, or
drinks. Check with your child’s teacher to find out more about their specific plans.

February Conferences
Tuesday, February 21 is set aside for Parent-Teacher Conferences at South. Teachers will
send home an invitation to parents next week if they are requesting a conference. If you don’t
receive an invitation but want to request a conference, please reach out to your child’s teacher.

South School Variety Show
South School is hosting a Variety Show on Thursday, March 17! If your child interested in
participating he or she must prepare and plan a two minute (or less) “act” for the show. These
acts can be solo, with a friend, or with a group. Tryouts will be on February 15 and 16 during lunch. All students who participate must have
parent permission and be able to attend our daytime and evening performances on March 17.
Please see Mrs. Ballinger for more information.
